Eternal Perspectives

This morning, I get Liam ready for school, send him away on his bus, and pray that God gives him a good day today.  That God will give him a clear mind and allow for him to not be too confused today; that He will keep him safe when I am not there to protect him.

all ready for school

all ready for school

I go in his room and make his bed, and today I am feeling “the feels” a little bit more than usual.  I talk to God about everything I am thinking, like “why do you allow this to happen to my sons?” And then I listen and let Him answer me.  Which basically means I stand there quietly, looking out the window, with no distractions and let God bring to my mind what He says about things like this.

And this is what I felt God wanted me to hear and think about today:  Liam and Oliver, their bodies are sick, and not working the way they should.  God allows sickness in our world, because the perfect world that He created was ruined by our sin. (I don’t have all the answers here, but that’s what I do know.  I also know that He doesn’t want us to be sick, it makes Him sad as well, and he does carry us through it when it does happen.)

But you know what’s not sick? Their spirit.  With Sanfilippo Syndrome comes an incredible innocence, an eternal innocence.  Liam and Oliver will never have to struggle with lying, cheating, pride, bitterness, addiction, greed, lust, doubting God, etc.  Yes, they sin of course, like every human, and are still in need of their Savior Jesus. But they have a special innocence that we do not have. They must have a super special relationship with God!

Their bodies are sick, but their spirits are healthy!  Healthier than mine will ever be.  And what’s eternal, that’s going to last far longer than this short life on Earth, your body or your spirit?

Liam and Oliver are the most loving, compassionate, forgiving people I have ever met.

So, with this eternal perspective, I can go on; joyful that 2 of my boys will never have to struggle with the darkness of these kinds of things in their life.  God has spared them of this, and for that I am so grateful.

I am also grateful that when the rest of us are struggling with the hard things in life, we can look at their sweet faces, and see all their love, light and innocence and be reminded what’s important in life:

Hugs and kisses

lots of compassion

the joy of believing and truly knowing God

the joys of the all the little things in life, like Christmas lights and snowmen

and of course, their favorite thing…. SNACKS!

Matthew 18: At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Mark 10:14….. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
